Three European Union schemes of geographical indications and traditional specialties, known as protected designation of origin (PDO), protected geographical indication (PGI), and traditional specialities guaranteed (TSG), promote and protect names of quality agricultural products and foodstuffs.[1] Products registered under one of the three schemes may be marked with the logo for that scheme to help identify those products.


Currently, Romania has seven products registered with protected geographical indications: the magiun de prune Topoloveni (plum jam); salam de Sibiu (salami); novac afumat din Tara Barsei (smoked bighead carp); scrumbie de Dunare afumata (smoked Danube mackerel); carnati de Plescoi (sausages); telemea de Ibanesti (cheese), and telemea de Sibiu (cheese).





1.Magiun of Topoloveni is a traditional Romanian food based on plum which has received since 2011 a Protected Geographical Status from the European Union.Magiun of Topoloveni is a kind of jam made from very ripe fruit from various plum varieties without added sugar. It is from the town of Topoloveni in the Argeș County.


2.Sibiu Salami, also known as Salam de Sibiu, is a Romanian variety of salami made with pork's meat, pork's fat, salt and condiments. In 2016, the Salam de Sibiu has been registered as a protected geographical indication (PGI) product in the European Union.



3.Telemea (Romanian pronunciation: [teleˈme̯a]) is the name of a Romanian cheese traditionally made of sheep’s milk.Nowadays the term encompasses cheese made out of cow's milk, and in some cases of goat's, or buffalo's milk.
