With the heat of the summer finally gone,

From Mr. Brown Bear slipped out a small yawn.

The leaves on the trees turned yellow, golden, and red.

Mr. Bear knew a fall breeze meant soon time for bed.

Like hedgehog and bats, Mr. Bear will hibernate to escape winter’s harshness,

In a few more weeks, he will curl up in his den and sleep in the darkness. 

But before he hibernates, Mr. Bear must prepare..

There is a lot to do while the fall leaves dance in the air. 

To start, Mr. Bear searches high and low for a den where he will rest,

Mr. Bear stumbles across a big hole in a tree, he likes it the best. 

Grass, berries, insects, and fish are what Mr. Bear finds very yummy,

But when the winter arrives, there will be no food to fill up his tummy.

During the fall, Mr. Brown Bear eats until he has doubled in size,

The extra fat will be used for energy in the winter, Mr. Bear is very wise! 

The extra stored fat in Mr. Bear is special because it is brown,

It will be used as energy when his breathing and heart has slowed down.
