Once upon a time there was a young
horse named Colt.
Colt loved to play outside, run, and be
free! However, Colt was smaller than the
rest of his friends and could not run as
fast.
This bothered Colt and made him angry.
He did not understand why he was
smaller than the other horses.
It just wasn't fair!

When Colt and the other young horses
met in the fields to play games, Colt
would always be picked last for teams
and games.
This made Colt upset. He knew in his
heart that if he grew to be the same
size as the other young horses he
would be faster than all of them.
Why wasn't he growing big like all the
others?
Why was he different? He thought.

Colt had, had enough. He was so upset
about his size that he decided to leave
the farm.
He just wanted to run away.
If he was going to be made fun of, be
picked last for games, and lose every
horse race he felt it was just easier to
leave.
So one day he got up and left.

Colt just kept on walking and walking
until he came across a brown bird.
"Hello," the bird said, "why do you look so
sad?"
Colt responded by saying "I'm too small,
all the other young horses are bigger and
faster than me."
"Oh I see," said the bird, "I have a little
story to tell you that I think will help you
better understand your problem."

"You see, you shouldn't worry. When I
was a chick I could not fly as well as
the other birds, but I kept practicing
and was patient" said the bird.
"Eventually I grew big and strong and
was one of the best flying birds in the
field! It just took a little more time for
me is all."
This made Colt think....

After the bird flew off Colt had some time
to think about what the bird had said.
"Maybe I'll grow bigger too if I just be
patient, eat healthy and keep active" he
thought.
This made Colt excited, and he knew that
he made a big mistake leaving the farm.
He decided that he had to return to where
he belonged at once!
