Long ago on a small island called Saipan, a large group of Chamorro families lived on eating vegetables, fruits, and fish. From day to night, the women took care of their homes and their children and the men farmed and fish. The children spend their time swimming and playing with animals. At the end of the day, families gathered to share a meal and enjoy one another’s company. Because the Chamorro people ate healthily and stayed active, they lived long and healthy lives.
Four hundred years later, Napu and his family continue to celebrate their Chamorro ancestors, but their way of living is different from their ancestors. Napu now lives in modern civilization. Everything is easier and convenient now, including food. Napu’s parents provide him with all the snacks and drinks he sees on television and he loves staying home, playing video games with his little sister, Isa.

Weekends are Napu’s favorite because he would stay home and eat all the snacks he wants. Until one day, in school, Napu felt so sick. His parents picked him up from school and went straight to see his doctor.

Great news! Napu will be just fine. However, the doctor did find that Napu was lacking the nutrients his body needs. To help Napu understand, the doctor talked about their ancestors and how they were healthy and strong people. To be just like them, Napu would need to eat more healthy and nutritional snacks and meals. To do this, Napu’s parents need to help him by packing healthy snacks and drinks for school.

Napu’s parents must also help him understand why eating healthy, like their ancestors, can keep him healthy and strong. They can do this by buying healthy ingredients and sit down together to enjoy together (Groark & Song, 2020). It is important for all parents to do this so that they can all live a healthy life.

Video games can be fun, but too much of it can bring harm to his health. How can that happen when video games aren’t food, right? Well, playing video games and spending too much time watching television can influence both children and parents to choose unhealthy, sugary snacks from commercials and advertisements. Many children and parents who watch too much television tend to eat more and move less which is not good for the human body (Robinson, Banda, Hale, Lu, Fleming-Micili, Calvert, Wartella, 2018). Video games don't have to be harmful. There are many movement video games such as just dance and virtual reality games that require movements.
