Okay, class! today we will learn about spatial concepts and societal change, including types of location, density, time-space compression, and its relationship with distance decay

.

But... Ms what is relative and absolute location?
Good question Rafael...

Absolute location: It is the precise location of something
RELATIVE LOCATION: Location of something in relation to another thing

That is exactly it Miguel!
Ms so can I say, My house is beside the supermarket? as relative location?

SPACE: It is how far you are from your house or the supermarket
physically
PLACE: Place is how each of you likes to go to the park or are attracted to staying at home or going to the mall, place is basically where people live.

Guys! have you heard about space and place? when talking about geography?

TIME SPACE COMPRESSION: This refers to the set of processes that can cause distances between places to contract because of new transportstions

For example...in 1817 a shipment from Cincinnati to NY took 52 days, in 1850 later on canals and railroads cut the time in half, and today with airplanes it takes only a couple of hours.

Ms! Can you give us an example?
This has a connection with distance decay which I will also teach you
