750 miles off the coast of Japan a small island holds unimaginable value. Iwo Jima is a small island under the control of the Japanese during World War II. America was attempting to launch B-29 bombers toward the main island of Japan. Japanese fighter planes intercepted the B-29s because they were taking off on Iwo Jima. The island has three airfields that could be used to launch an invasion into Japan and stop the interception of their B-29 bombers. America saw the potential if they captured the island.

After months of bombing the island and careful planning. U.S Marines invaded the island of Iwo Jima On February 19, 1945. Marines attacked the shores while the Japanese made bunkers dug deep in the volcanic rock, with machine guns mounted at the ready.
