Once upon a time, there was a little elf named Mistletoe
that called the North Pole her home.
Mistletoe looked just like all of the others from the
outside. She wore a bright red hat, green shoes with
sparkly buckles, and her ears pointed left and right (for
this is how you can tell an elf from a human, you know!).
Mistletoe was not like the other elves, though. Mistletoe
was born blind.

When someone is blind that means that they cannot use
their eyes very well. Some people that are blind cannot
see at all. Humans (and elves) that are blind may use
special walking sticks or even dogs that are trained to
guide them.
One day, the day before Christmas Eve to be exact, the
North Pole was filled with its normal hustle and bustle.
Elves and tiny penguins were darting every which way
packing up the last of the presents for the children.

I could see what
is going on..."

Mistletoe wanted so badly to see the brightly wrapped
goodies, to decorate the tree, and most importantly to help
Santa Claus by making toys like all of the others.
She could not do so without her eyes.
She did not want to be different.
She just felt like giving up her Christmas spirit.

Santa always told her, "Mistletoe, you ARE important! You
were made beautifully just the way you are. Never forget -
you are the only YOU! One day you will surprise us all!"
"Okay, Santa," she would say, but she always thought,
"What will I do? I'm so different! I can't even make a
single toy!"
Mistletoe was sad as she slowly made her way across the
streets, others running by with orders in their heads.
