This book is dedicated to Mrs. Kneeland, my APES and MN ecology teacher.

Candice and Gabe loved going down to their favorite lake. They loved to swim, fish, and walk around the lake. They've been going to this lake for many years but something has changed.

Their favorite lake is now dirty! There is trash everywhere, green algae everywhere, and the lake seems a bit shallower. Candice and Gabe need to get to the bottom of this and see why this is happening. So, they go to their favorite teacher Mrs. Kneeland.

Mrs. Kneeland tells them that erosion is one of the biggest reasons they're lake is dirty. Right by the lake there is a forest and they are cutting it down to build roads. By doing this, the soil will be disrupted and fall into the lake. This will make the lake dirtier and make the lake shallower.

Candice and Gabe still had a few questions for Mrs. Kneeland. Gabe asked, "Why is all this algae in the lake?" Mrs. Kneeland told them the algae is growing because of the runoff that is getting put in the lake. Runoff is from human activity. For example runoff can be gas and fertilizer and this might get in the water causing algae to live freely.
