Black cats have a hard time getting adopted because of their scary appearance. Many people warm up to cats and dogs of lighter colours, but when they see black cats and dogs, they assume that they are not friendly because of their solid black colour. This is actually not true. Black pets are just as loving as light coloured pets, and we should treat them with love instead of judging them by their looks.

Another reason why black cats are hated is because of superstitions. One of the most common superstitions about black cats is that if a black cat crosses your path, you will be unlucky. Early American settlers believed that witches could transform into black cats. 16th century Italians saw black cats as a sign of bad luck and despised them. All these superstitions are obviously false because a black animal has nothing to do with witches or bad luck.
