There was a fish named Freddy who lived in the 

ocean with his mom and dad. Freddy and his 

family lived in a big coral reef with many other 

fish and other sea creatures.  

Freddy loved his home. He thought he lived in 

the most beautiful place in the whole world. 

One day, it was time for Freddy to start school 

for the first time. 

Freddy was so excited to be able to learn with all 

of the other fish his age. Freddy had never met 

many other fish his age and was very excited to 

meet new friends. 

So Freddy said goodbye to his mom and dad 

and swam off to his first day of school. 

Freddy arrived at school, excited to start his first day. 

His teacher, Ms. Flounder, welcomed him to the class 

with a smile. 

"Good morning Freddy," Ms. Flounder said, "We are so 

glad to have you with us." 

Freddy's first day started off great. Ms. Flounder taught 

the class about all of the different types of animals that 

live on land. 

When Freddy went to recess, he realized that all of the other 

fish were giving him strange looks.

Freddy saw a group of fish playing tag. He went up to them 

and asked, "Can I play with you guys?"

"No!" one fish replied.

 "We don't want to play with you," said another fish.

 "You don't fit in. We are all yellow but you are red!" said a 

third fish. 

Freddy was shocked. He had never realized that he was 

different before. Freddy looked around and realized that 

they were right. He was the only fish that was red! 

So Freddy went off by himself and cried. 

"I wish I had friends," he thought. 

But day after day nobody wanted to play with 

Freddy. 

Then one day, Ms. Flounder introduced a new 

student to the class. "This is Billy," said Ms. 

Flounder, "He just moved to our school and is 

going to be joining our class." 

Freddy was so excited. Billy was different just like 

him. Billy was blue! 

Since none of the other fish would play with Freddy or 

Billy, Freddy and Billy became best friends. 

During recess, Freddy and Billy went on all kinds of 

adventures together. 

One day, they discovered a box full of sticks with red 

dots at the end of them. They had never seen anything 

like it! 

"This must have come from the world outside the 

ocean!" said Billy. Freddy and Billy were fascinated.
