There was a boy named Randy.  He had moved to the island with his mom after the big storm destroyed their home on the mainland.  He had never been to the island before today.  

Randy was nervous about meeting his family on the island.  When they arrived at his Aunt's house where they would stay he noticed no one was speaking his language.  His mom was helping to translate as he had not been taught this language.   

Randy went to town with his mother. They visited the coffee shop and went to order.  His mom had to order for him because he was not able to read the menu or understand the workers.  He felt very overwhelmed and out of place on the islannd. 

Once outside there was a group of kids and he noticed that they were pointing and laughing at him. They were making fun of him because his mom had to order for him in the coffee shop.  His mom told him to ignore them as they walked away.  

He was very angry and told his mom he wanted to leave the island.  His mom told him they had no where else to go.  This was their new home. He yelled at her because he didn't understand anything anyone was saying around him. She told him this is where his family was from and that he would learn the language and culture of his family.  

As they walked his mom was telling him about his family and how they had lived on the island for many generations. She was telling him stories about his grandparents and great grandparents. Randy had not known his grandparents because they passed away before he was born. His grandmother made jewelry and his grandfather was a fisherman; this was how they provided for their family.  This island was the home of their ancestors.

At home his uncle told him the story of their ancestors and how they came to the island.  Long ago there were pirates that buried treasure on the island and a few of the pirates stayed to keep it safe. Eventually the pirates had families and these families still hold the secret of the buried treasure. His great great great great grandparents were some of these pirates.
