Hi there, my name is Amelia Earhart! I was the very first woman to fly across the Atlantic ocean. I also created an organization where other female pilots joined together, as well as writing books about my flights. Join me as we journey through my life and discover what it was like to be me!

I was born on July 24th, 1897, in Atchison, Kansas. I was raised by my dad, Edwin Earhart and my mom, Amy Otis. I also had a sister named Muriel.

Muriel and I were always on adventures! We loved to climb trees, hunt for rats, and explore the neighborhood. Adventure has always called my name!

Although I was an adventure seeker, flying was not something that I was interested in, yet. When I was ten years old, I saw my first plane at a state fair and I was not impressed with what I saw. I mean, who cares about an airplane with a bunch of wires and wood attached together?

I graduated from Hyde Park High School in 1915, and then I attended an all girls finishing school. I decided during that time that I wanted to make a difference, so I dropped out of school to help the wounded soldiers in World War I. After that, I finished up college and became a social worker for Denison House in Boston, Massachusetts.

This is Denison House, where I was a social worker.
Soon, my life would change. In 1920 I took my very first airplane ride and knew that flying a plane was going to be my life goal! I felt like I was on top of the world, and I wanted to learn how to become a pilot.

After my first plane ride, I wanted to save up my money to pay for flying lessons with aviator, Neta Snook. I was inspired by Neta because she was a female that was doing exactly what I wanted to do. I finally collected enough money for flying lessons in 1921 and couldn't be happier!

I bought an airplane 6 moths later called, "The Canary" because it was bright yellow. I loved my two seater biplane and I even reached my very fist achievement in it which was setting my first women's record to reach an altitude of 14,000 feet!

My first flight across the Atlantic was not by myself, it was with pilot Bill Stultz and co-pilot Slim Gordon in 1928. I was the navigator and we were on the plane, "Frienship". We flew from Tresspassy Harbor, Netherlands to Burry Port, Wales. The plane ride was 21 hours, can you believe that? This adventure was very important to me because I was the first woman to ever fly across the Atlantic!

My life quickly began to revolve around flying. In fact, I placed 3rd at the Cleveland Women's Air Derby! I also wrote my first book titled, 20 Hrs. 40 Min., in 1928. My publisher, George Putnam, helped my write my book and we even became good friends. George and I then decided to get married in 1931 and he helped me with my plans to cross the Atlantic solo.

In 1929, I helped found The Ninety-Nines which was a female aviator organization. I felt like women should be doing all of the things that men could do. On May 20th, 1932, I became the first woman and second person ever to fly across the Atlantic. I took off from Harbor Grace, Newfoundland and landed in Londonderry, Ireland.
