“Crewmate? Again?!?” I looked down at my screen, disappointed at the role I had to play once more. I downloaded the game off of the App Store a couple of days ago after my friends begged and pleaded for me to play with them. I’ve never really been that big of a fan of mobile games, so my addiction to this unholy space mafia-style game was quite unordinary. I’d played around 25 games at that point, but I still hadn’t gotten a single imposter game yet. Well, technically not. I was given imposter once, but the game quit before I could even play.
I wasn’t a very big fan of constantly getting the role of crewmate. Nevertheless, I was determined to play the game to my fullest potential.
My first task to complete was the card swipe. Great. Just Great.
Swipe.
Error.
Swipe.
Error.
Ultimately frustrated at both my consistent crewmate roll and my card swipe results, I banged my head against the screen furiously. Somehow, I hit just the right spot on my head to feel extremely dizzy. The room got dark, spinning around me and getting fuzzy.
Ouch.
“Um... hey?” An unknown voice spoke to my limp, pained body. I felt a slight nudging against my head. “I’m alright, mom, just got a little dizzy-“ I shift my aching head up to see a man in a space suit.
What?
“Hey, my names is Oscar! I’m the cool orange guy with a little plant on my head! Makes me look like a carrot, don’t you think? Plus, I’m not really sure I’m your mom.”
Holy toots. Did I really just wake up in Among Us, of all places?
Maybe I’m just dreaming...
Following the old saying, I attempted to pinch my cheek to see if I was awake. The attempt was futile though, since I had a helmet over my head. I pinched over my glove instead, which caused a small pain in my palm. So I was not dreaming. Toots.
“Um, hey? Are you ok?” Carrot man Oscar
looked at me quizzically. “I’m not entirely sure if I am, I kinda just woke up here,” I responded. “Well, welcome to the waiting room! Here you can choose your-“ I cut him off, knowing the mechanics of the game already. “I know, Oscar. In whatever universe I live in, what we are doing is a game.”
He looked at me disappointedly. I realized then that I may have hurt his feelings. Eh, whatever. This couldn’t be real, right? It isn’t like I am really upsetting anyone anyway.
“Oh- um... alright then.” Oscar shifted his glance toward the floor, and I started to feel a
bit bad. Whatever- the game will be starting soon anyways.
I headed over toward the character designer and picked a white body and ram horns, my favorite outfit. Feeling a bit more confident than before, I headed over near the middle of the room. A couple other crewmates were staring at me, looking as if even my suit color was unwelcome there. The crewmates were the primary colors, red, yellow, and blue.
The red crewmate was a girl with dark brown hair inside of her helmet. She wore two devil
horns on top of her head, as if her evil stares at me could be represented through her outfit.
The yellow crewmate was a short boy with sandy blonde hair, close to matching his suit. He wore a golden crown on top of his head.
The blue crewmate was a tall girl with long, wavy hot pink hair that was clearly visible through her shaded helmet. She had a little flower on her head that matched her hair, color-wise.
I gave them my evil stare back at them, and the guy in yellow suit chuckled a little bit. Maybe the stare was unsuccessful.
A few other people joined the game: a short person in black with a plague mask, a guy in purple with a “Dum” sticker on his forehead, a girl in brown with a paper bag on her head, a teal boy with a police hat, and a tiny girl in gray with goggles on.
Looking around, I tried to memorize who was who. After getting a good idea of who’s who, the screen for your role came up. “Great, crewmate again,” I grumbled quietly. Time to begin tasks again.
While walking to electrical, I pondered what would occur if I was killed. Would it hurt? I felt that pinch on my hand earlier, so maybe I would.
Just another reason to be extra careful, I suppose.
