North Star Academy

Timothy is learning geometry. He thinks it is all dumb and that he will never use it in his life. He is very wrong!
On his way back home from school, he sees a truck drive down the road. He imagines what would happen if there were nails on the road.

Hmm...

He thinks that if there are nails on the road, then the truck will have a popped tire!
If n (for nails), then p (for popped tire)

WOW! Timothy just used geometry! He used a converse statement, which means...
If p, then q!

This got Timothy thinking. What if there were no nails on the road? That would mean no popped tire!
If no n, then no p.

Timothy just used geometry again! He used an inverse statement, which means...
If no p, then no q!
And if there was no popped tire, that would mean that there were no nails! That is geometry as well!

That was the contrapositive method: if no q, then no p.
Those were all conditional statements! A conditional statement is a statement with an if in it. If p, then q. If no p, then no q. If no q, then no p.
