There are three branches of Government. The Executive branch which includes the President. The Judicial branch which includes the supreme court justices. Finally, the Legislative which includes congress. All three branches work together to balance power along with the voices of the people.
The three branches are interconnected to balance power. The balance comes from checks and balances. The president has the power to veto bills passed by the legislative branch. The Judicial branch has the power to declare laws or acts unconstitutional. The legislative branch can impeach both judges or the President. These acts balance political climate to follow the constitution as law.
The powers of the executive branch fall under the President. The President negotiates with foreign nations. Has the power to appoint judges. The President can also veto proposals for law which can be overturned through checks and balances. The president can also pardon individuals of crimes.
The powers of the Executive branch can be checked by both the legislative and judicial branch. Congress can check the executive branch by a two thirds vote. This means that a law vetoed by the president can be overturned by a 2/3 majority. The judicial branch can check the executive office by declaring laws or executive orders unconstitutional.
The legislative branch is made up of congress and the senate. This branch has the power to make laws and declare wars. The legislative branch also has the power of controlling taxes and spending policies. The legislative branch also has the power to approve presidential nominations which is a power, but a check of power of the executive branch.
Checks of the legislative branch come in many forms. A check of power can come from a Presidential Veto blocking a law attempted to be passed by congress. Similar to this the judicial branch can block laws and declare them unconstitutional.
The powers of the judicial branch include interpreting state laws and determining whether one is guilty or innocent. This branch is also to ensure that the citizen's rights are protected both federally and at the state level. The judicial branch is the highest court and will also supervise lower courts to ensure justice of the people and states.
To ensure balance of this branch congress can amend the constitution or pass new laws that must be passed by the judicial branch. Another check on this branch is to limit the number of justices or impeach justices based on high crimes against the country.
