Mrs. Tanner had 

brand new music 

students in her 

band.   All of them 

were beginning to 

choose their new 

instruments.

The students all 

picked their favorite 

and they were soon 

learning what each 

of their instruments 

were for.

Unfortunately, as the 

students learned about their 

instruments, they started to 

think that their instrument 

was the most important.  

This caused the students to 

start fighting. 

The flute player Lucy 

exclaimed, "The flute 

is most important 

because we sound 

the highest and we 

play the fastest 

notes!"

"No, the oboe is the 

most important because 

we have the melody 

often and the oboe is 

the most difficult 

woodwind to play!" 

Becca said exasperated.

"The trumpet is more 

important than the flute 

and the oboe because we 

are a brass instrument, 

we can play high notes, 

and we play jazz music!" 

yelled Jack the trumpet 

player.

"The French Horn is the 

most beautiful brass 

instrument, we get to 

play the loudest parts, 

and we have many 

solos!" Emily retorted.
