A story based on fighting ableism in education.

Far in Northern Ontario, a little girl named Bella moved to Orangeville with her family. Bella has red, curly hair and needs extra services to do daily tasks because of her disability. She is excited to go to school tomorrow and make friends.

When Bella got to school, she realized there was no ramp to go upstairs. Bella was sad because she could not go to some of her classes.

When Bella went to a class on the first floor, she could not fit her wheelchair in the desks. The space was too small.

All the kids started calling her names and laughing at her because of her disability. No one wanted to be her friend!

At lunch, no one wanted to sit with her until Henry came along.

Hi! I'm Henry. My teacher said you are sitting alone. Can I join you? I will share my bananas!

Really? Of course you can join me! My name is Bella and thanks for the bananas!

No problem, but are you okay? You sound like you are crying.
They began to talk and Henry wondered why Bella was sad.

Well, no one wants to sit with me. They are laughing at me and calling me names because the desk was too small for my wheelchair to fit! I am upset that I can't go to my other class because there is no ramp for me to use.

Bella told Henry about her bad day. Henry could relate.
I get what you mean. Sometimes I go to the wrong class because they do not have braille on the door labels!

You know what we should do? We should make a club where we teach others about our disabilities and what they can do to help us!

Wow what a great idea! I will make posters and you talk to people to let them know about the club.
All of a sudden, Henry came up with an idea to make a club! Bella and Henry got straight to work!
