Once upon a time, there was a very scary Jack-O-
Lantern. Although he was created to be scary,
that isn't the pumpkin he wanted to be. He
wanted to be a NICE pumpkin, but no one
believed him.

One day, the scary Jack-
O-Lantern saw a little
bird, yelling for help.
"Help me, Help me!" said
the bird, but no one else
was around. "What's
wrong?" asked the Jack-
O-Lantern. "The cat! The
cat tried to catch me!
You're so scary, please
don't try to hurt me too!"

"I would never hurt
anyone!" said the Jack-O-
Lantern. Fly up to the
highest tree in the forest
and wait for me to come
back here. I'll talk to the
cat for you and see if we
can work something out.
The bird agreed and as
the Jack-O-Lantern
hopped away, the bird
flew away.

"Hello, Mr. Cat," said the Jack-O-Lantern.
"Oh.. um.. hello.. sir," said the Cat,
obviously afraid. "I wanted to talk to you
about something. I know this wonderful
bird who is just terrified of you, but I
really think if you two got to know one
another, you could be friends. Could we
try that instead? The cat thought for a
second, and decided that maybe he could
use another friend.

Once the bird heard the
good news, he flew
back down. He quickly
became friends with the
cat and the Jack-O-
Lantern, and after
telling all his friends
how nice the Jack-O-
Lantern actually was, all
the animals wanted to
play with him. The very
scary Jack-O-Lantern
finally wasn't so scary
anymore.
