One day, Levi and Lila were at home and 

complaining about how bored they were. It 

was their mother's birthday later in the week, 

so they decided to bake cupcakes for her 

party. As they looked through their pantry, 

they tried to decide what would make the best 

cupcakes.

Levi thought that his mother would like banana 

cupcakes the best. Lila thought that she would 

much rather have pumpkin spice cupcakes. 

They could not come to a decision, so they 

decided to make a competition out of it. They 

would both make their own cupcakes and have 

their mom judge whose cupcakes are best. 

"This means war!", Levi shouted.

Lila's cupcakes were a delicious blend of 

spices, pumpkin, and orange. Since her 

mother's birthday is in the Fall, Lila thought 

that she would like cupcakes that reminded 

her of the season. The cake itself was pumpkin 

flavored, with spiced orange filling and cream 

cheese frosting. Lila thought that she would 

win for sure.

Levi's cupcakes were a delightful blend of 

island fruits. He included banana, pineapple, 

and coconut. The frosting was a sweet coconut 

cream with toasted coconuts sprinkled on top. 

Levi knows how much his mother loves the 

beach, so he wanted to make cupcakes that 

remind her of that. Levi thought that he would 

win for sure.

When their mother got home from work they 

wanted her to test the cupcakes and pick 

which ones she would rather have at her party. 

They had to know who won the cupcake war! 

After taste testing both cupcakes she said that 

she could not pick a favorite. She loved them 

both so much that she asked the kids to make 

both kinds for her party. Now everyone is a 

winner!
