The score was 32-
33 with the Sharks
in the lead. The
Rams had just
called a timeout,
and the coach was
devising a strategy
with Shawn, the
team's captain.

This was the championship game, so everybody
was on edge - the team, the crowd, the coach.
Once the coach finished talking to Shawn, the
team huddled up and shouted "Break!".

The referee blew the
whistle, and the
game began again.
Jay, Shawn's
teammate,
intercepted a pass
from the opposing
team. Jay's eyes
flew to Shawn, and
he swung the ball in
his direction.

Catching the ball, Shawn quickly glanced around
the court and saw exactly what he was hoping for -
a breakaway. As the audience screamed, Shawn
dribbled down the court.

Looking to the left, Shawn realized there was ten
seconds left on the clock. "I have to do something
fast", he thought. All eyes on him, he sped down
the court only to get stopped by the opposing
team's center. He was right in between Shawn and
the basket!

Shawn stopped. His
palms were sweaty. He
took a deep breath and
faked to the left then
lunged to the right.
With two long strides,
Shawn launched
himself into the air, his
right hand shoving the
ball toward the right
hand corner of the
backboard's painted
square.

The ball struck the corner, sending it straight
through the net of the hoop just as the buzzer
screamed announcing the end of the game.
Shawn's teammates and coach ran across the
court whooping and yelling and lifted him up
into the air. The crowd went wild. The Rams
were champions!
