Saloni had never been more scared in her life! All of the students in her new school were not speaking Urdu or Punjabi. She had never heard this language before!

"We have a new student." Said the teacher.
"She just came here after living in Cyprus and Pakistan, she speaks no English, so please treat her how you would want to be treated." The teacher continued.

"Her name is Sale-oo-ne." Said her teacher incorrectly.
With little knowledge Saloni had of the English language, she could tell her poor teacher, Mrs. Michaels, said it wrong.

"Sale-on-ne." Saloni corrected as proudly as she could.
Saloni pondered on correcting her teacher. Maybe it was just a word she did not understand yet? But Saloni knew better than that, she new the teacher accidentally said her name wrong. With all of her courage Saloni began to speak,

The teacher gave Saloni a smile and a nod to show Saloni that she understood what she was trying to communicate. Saloni smiled back knowing that Mrs. Michaels now knew how to say her name.

All of the students, except the girl in the front row laughed when Saloni corrected Mrs. Michaels and she gave the class a glare. making the laughing cease.

"Remember," she said "treat others how you want to be treated."

Saloni took her seat next to a girl named Irhaa. Saloni wanted to speak to her and introduce herself, but she was too scared. Saloni than recognized that Irhaa did not laugh when she corrected the teacher.

Once more, Saloni had to collect enough courage for her to speak. She thought if she could do it once, she could do it again and again.
"Thank you!" Saloni said as loudly and confidently as she could to Irhaa.
