me bother you.
Thank you for being such a great big brother!

Tom the turkey was very excited for
Thanksgiving. He was going to have a long
weekend home from school and no homework!
All of his friends living in Sweet Potato Farm
were going up north for the long weekend.

Back at home, Tom knew he would have to try to
make the most of his long weekend. However,
one thing that was not exciting for Tom was the
thought of staying home from school with his
little brother and sister, Todd and Tess.

Whenever Tom was playing video games, his little sister
Tess was always trying to play too! She didn’t even
know how to use the controller correctly. The very first
day of Thanksgiving break, Tess came barging into
Tom’s room. “Tom”, Tess explained, “I want to play a
game with you. You have an extra controller. Let me
play!” “No", shouted Tom, “I want to be left alone. Go
find Todd. I’m sure he’ll want to play”.

Tess was so sad that her older brother never
wanted to spend time with her. She was near tears
when she went upstairs. She thought about telling
Mama Turkey but she knew Tom would just get
more angry. She decided that she would never
bother Tom again.

Meanwhile, Tom was getting lonely being all
by himself. However, he remembered his
younger brother Todd was still around. He
quickly went outside to find his brother to
keep him company.

By the time he got outside, he heard voices
and noises. BANG! POW! He wondered what
he was possibly hearing. He saw Todd, Tess,
and some of their other turkey friends having
a great time. They weren’t inside, but they
were playing outdoors making the most of
their holiday break.

Tom suddenly knew what it felt like to be left
out of the group. Todd, Tess, and friends
didn’t even look his way when he went
outside.

The next day was Thanksgiving and Tom wasn’t
even excited. His mom was in the kitchen
preparing the turkey meal. Normally, Tom would
be helping his parents and enjoying the day, but
his feelings were really hurt. He was mostly hurt
because he knew he made Tess feel this way too.
No one likes being left out.

During dinner, Tom came up with a plan. He knew
that his brother and sister wouldn’t expect gifts on
Thanksgiving, but Tom knew he had to do
something special.
