The Planets of the Solar System
A planet is an object that orbits around a star. For example, the Sun is a star so therefore the planets of the solar system orbits around it.
What are the planets of the Solar System?
There are 8 planets in our solar system. Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Saturn, Jupiter Uranus, and Neptune
Mercury
Mercury is the smallest planet in our solar system. It’s the closest planet to the Sun. Mercury takes 88 days to orbit the Sun. It doesn’t have any moons or rings. Mercury’s distance from the Sun is 57.91 million kilometers. It can be hot and cold. It is also gray in colour. Mercury is the second-hottest planet.

Venus
Venus is the third smallest planet in our solar system. It’s the second closest planet to the Sun. Venus takes 225 days to orbit the Sun. It doesn’t have any moons or rings. It's distance from the Sun is 108.02 million kilometers. Venus is the hottest planet in our solar system. It's temperature is around 900 degrees Fahrenheit.

Earth
Earth is the fifth largest planet in our solar system. It’s the third closest planet to the Sun. Earth takes 365 days to orbit the Sun. It has no rings, but only has one moon. Earth’s distance from the Sun is 147.37 million kilometers. Earth is almost a sphere. It is mostly out of oxygen, silicon, and iron. Earth is filled with life.

Mars
Mars is the second-smallest planet in our solar system. It is the fourth closest planet to the Sun. Mars takes 687 days to orbit the Sun. It has no rings, but has two moons. These moons are called Deimos and Phobos. Deimos is 12 kilometers, while Phobos is 22 kilometers. Mars' distance from the Sun is 235.58 million kilometers. Mars can be hot and cold.

Jupiter
Jupiter is the largest planet in our solar system. It is the fifth closest planet to the Sun. It takes Saturn to orbit around the Sun 12 Earth years. Jupiter’s distance from the Sun is 778.5 million kilometers. It has 4 rings and 53 moons. Jupiter is cold mostly. It is also a giant gas planet. Jupiter is made up of helium and hydrogen.
