Bengal Tigers are a large species of cats that have orange fur with black stripes. Their underbellies are white. They are one the largest of the big cats, only matched in size by lions. They can weigh anywhere from 240 to 500 pounds!

Bengal Tigers are from Asia. Most of them are in India, Nepal, Bangladesh, and Bhutan. They live in tropical rainforests, savannas, grasslands, and even in mangrove swamps.

Tigers are carnivores, which means they eat meat. They are apex predators that hunt for their food at dusk or dawn. Apex predators are at the top of the food chain. They eat a variety of undulates, which means animals with hooves. Their favorite food is gaur. A gaur looks like a grayish, black bull.

Tigers are solo hunters. After they hunt, they swim or drag their food to somewhere safe to eat. They eat until they are full, then they hide their food so they can come back later to eat it. Tigers can eat up to 80 lbs in one feeding, but they do not do this very often.

Tigers have beautiful stripes which actually serve a purpose. The stripes help camoflauge them while they hunt. Their stripes look like shadows and help the tiger blend in to their surroundings while hunting their prey. The stripes of a tiger also help identify them since no two tigers have the exact same pattern of stripes. They are like a human's fingerprints.

Tigers have the largest and longest canine teeth of any of the cat species. They are usually about 4 inches long!

Unlike most species of cats, the tiger actually enjoys being in water. They swim to cool off and to bathe. They are pretty good swimmers and use their large paws to move through the water.
