Day 1
Today was my first day at camp. This is my first summer away
from home and I am nervous. All of my friends came back
every summer and told me about the amazing experiences
they had at camp, but I am not so sure that I am ready. My
parents dropped me off this morning and it was hard to say
goodbye; I have never been away from home for this long.
I have 3 counselors and they all seem nice. There are 8 other
girls in my cabin, but they I feel like they all already know each
other. I did not talk much today because I was scared that
they would not like me. Tonight was all wore pink, though, to
show that we were a cabin. Everyone is trying to make me feel
welcome, but it is hard being away from my parents and my
house.

Day 2
It is only my second day here, but I think I am already starting to
like it more. Today we went through the schedule of our normal
day and signed up for activities. Even though we did not get to do
anything yet, I can already tell I am going to have fun.
We took our swim test this morning in the pool. I am so glad
mom packed my goggles; I swam fast and passed the test, no
problem. When everyone was done taking the swim test, the
lifeguards let us have free swim. All of the counselors came in the
pool and we climbed on them while they tossed us around the
pool.
The food has been good so far and I slept through the whole
night. I cannot wait to write home about my day!

Day 3
Since yesterday was a pool day, today we went in the lake. It
is really cold and you cannot see what is at the bottom, but
there are so many fun things to do. There is a trampoline, a
slide, canoes, and the blob!
The blob is definitely the best part of the lake. One person
jumps onto the blob and moves to the last green square.
When the person on deck yells, "Blobber ready?" you
respond, "Ready!" Then they yell blobbing and jump on the
blob; the person on the end flies into the air! I closed my eyes
the first time I did it, but I do not think I will next time. I
want to see what camp looks like from the air!

Day 4
Today it rained a lot. We did not get to go in the pool or the
lake or do most of our activities. We had to stay in the dining
hall for a long time because there was thunder and lightning.
Luckily, the counselors played fun music and we danced
around the dining hall until the rain stopped. My favorite
song was "Singing in the Rain" because everyone sounds silly
when they sing the last verse with their tongues out.
Most of our activities today were canceled because of the rain
and there is mud everywhere. We got to come back to the
cabin early though and we are playing card games until lights
out.

Day 5
This morning we had services in the Strauss Chapel for the
first time. The Chapel is in the middle of the woods and it is
beautiful when the sun shines through the trees while we are
praying.
I like going to camp here because everyone is Jewish, just
like me. No one wonders why I do not go to Church on
Sunday and everyone knows Hebrew, too. Services are kind
of long, but the song leaders make all of the prayers more
interesting. Plus, we are allowed to stand up and dance to
our favorite songs. I guess services can be fun at camp!
Sara

Day 6
Speaking of services, today is Friday which
means tonight was Shabbat. Shabbat is the
Jewish sabbath and, at camp, we all wear white
and walk to the dining hall together. We sing
prayers over candles, grape juice, and bread.
Then we eat camp famous chicken and Apple
Brown Betty!
Services were in the Hillman Chapel tonight and
two of the girls in my cabin introduced a prayer.
After services we had song session; all of camp
went back to the dining hall and sang and danced
until it was past our bed time.
I had so much fun, but now I am definitely read
to sleep.
Sara

Day 7
On Saturdays, after super long morning services, we have
mandatory optionals. It is "mandatory" that we do an activity,
but it is "optional" what we do. Our whole cabin ran to the fire
circle to make pita with Israeli Scouts. The dough was delicious
and we got to add chocolate!
In the afternoon, my friends and I decided to go to ceramics
and play on the wheels. We tried to make bowls, but they came
out looking like smashed balls of clay. We had fun though, and
we got to clean the wheels afterward, which is actually fun.
There are so many fun things to do on mandatory optionals; I
wish this was not my only Saturday of the summer.
