Kittylocks and the Three Bears
Brelyn Dachelet Watkins

Once upon a time, there lived a sweet, little kitty named Kittylocks. She had long, golden locks of fur.
One day, her mother asked her to go to the store and buy some milk.
“Do not go off the trail,” her mother said.
On the way, Kittylocks saw a beautiful field of violets and dandelions. She thought, “I will pick some for Mommy.”

While Kittylocks was picking violets, she saw a dandelion seed floating in the sky. She leapt at it, but unsuccessfully missed it and fell down. She rolled down a hill and into the woods.
When Kittylocks sat up, she was pretty surprised to be at the front of a doorstep. She heard voices and ran to hide behind a bush.

Meanwhile inside the cottage, three bears were preparing breakfast. They were making blueberry pancakes. Mama Bear suddenly realized they were all out of honey.
She called to Baby and Papa Bear, “We have to go out to get some honey before we can eat our pancakes. We are all out.”
Kittylocks watched as the three bears left. She thought, “I will watch over their house while they are gone.” So, she skipped inside the cottage.

When she went inside, she saw three cups of milk on the table. Kittylocks tried to get up to the top of the table, but it was very high for her. She jumped once. She jumped twice. On the third jump, she managed to clinch her claws on the side of the table and scramble up.

Kittylocks tried the first, biggest cup of milk. It was too thin. It must have been skim milk. She tried the second, medium cup, but it was still not creamy enough. It must have been 2% milk. Then, Kittylocks licked the third, smallest cup of milk. It was just right, thick and creamy whole milk. Kittylocks licked it all up.
Exhausted from all that jumping and having a full belly, Kittylocks was tired. She plopped down from the table and sleepily dragged her feet up the stairs.
In the bedroom, she saw three beds. The first bed was humongous and too high up. There was no way Kittylocks could reach the top. The second bed was shorter and Kittylocks jumped right up.

However as soon as her paws touched the bed, she noticed herself swaying right to left. Trying to get steady, Kittylocks clinched her claws into the bed. Suddenly, water sprayed out all over Kittylocks. She jumped off, panicking, and racing like a scared bunny around the bedroom.

Five minutes later, Kittylocks was all out of breath. She dropped into the floor right in front of the third bed. Kittylocks saw that there was a step stool beside it to help her reach the top. Kittylocks was delighted! She climbed up and curled into the soft, snuggly covers. Then, she fell fast asleep.

At that same moment, the bears were running home from a swarm of bees. They had a full jar of honey, but the bees were not happy about it. No siree, they did not like it one bit!
