Today is Maria's birthday. But no one seems to care about that. "I'm sure mum and dad didn't forget my birthday." Maria thought "I have to go and ask mum and dad". Maria's dad is in the bedroom talking on the phone. Maria went into the bedroom and asked "Do you know what day it is today?" "Yes," dad replied. "Today is August 22." "No!" Maria said "Today is a very special day". "What's special?" dad asked. "Maybe you make a little mistake, there's nothing special today."

"I'm sure mom will remember my birthday." Maria thought. So Maria asked her mom, "Mom, do you know what's special today?". Maria's mom thought for a moment and then replied "I don't know." Then Maria asked Lisa and the others about her birthday but no one answered correctly. Now Maria believes everyone has forgotten her birthday. She is very sad. She played alone at the park all afternoon.

The sky was getting darker and darker, and Maria suddenly remembered that it was time for dinner. Maria ran home. As she opened the door, everything was dark. She turned on the light to her suprised her parents and all her friends was there. They sang "Happy birthday to you! Happy birthday day to you! Happy birthday Maria!".
