At 13, I ran away from home and became a waitress. Then, I started working at night clubs and learned to dance. I got married at a young age but got divorced soon after. Later, I moved to Paris in the time when they loved American jazz. Soon I came back to America. In 1968 and marched along with Martin Luther King Jr for the civil rights movement. Later I died on April 12, 1975 at just 68.

I changed history because of my martyrdom, ideas, and speeches contributed to the development of Black nationalist ideology and the Black Power movement. I also helped to popularize the values of autonomy and independence among African Americans in the 1960s and '70s. I urged my fellow Black Americans to protect themselves against white aggression “by any means necessary,” a stance that often put me at odds with the nonviolent teachings of Martin Luther King, Jr. February 21, 1965, in New York City, I was assassinated.

I had 5 kids but one died after birth. One of my most famous quotes is "If the first women God ever made was strong enough to turn the world upside down, these women together ought to be able to turn it right again." I died November 26, 1883, Battle Creek, MI.
