Parka gave a big stretch and jumped out of bed. "Wow, the sun is out today! I want to wear shorts!" She shouts. 

"Parka Honey," Her mom says. "It is winter!"

Winter is one of the 4 seasons. Do you see sun in the winter where you live? What do the trees look like?

 Winter can be frigid, or very cold in many areas. Parka lives in New York, where snow happens often during the winter. There are no leaves on the trees, and the wind howls at night.

 "Expect sun today, but bundle up if you go outside!" Says the weatherman on TV. 

"The snow is gone, it must be warm." Thought Parka."

Parka opened the door and woosh!- A gust of wind came by, and she quickly felt the cold air. 

"

Cold weather means low temperatures. Temperature tells us how hot or cold it is. We use a special tool called a thermometer to tell us if the temperature is high or low.

"Winter has its own smell too! And...and did you hear the howling of the wind? 

 She glanced at her beautiful dresses hanging in her closet. "Not today" She sighed. 

Point to what Parka should wear outside to keep warm.

Her mother is baking banana muffins in the kitchen. Parka peeks into the kitchen."Mmm smells yummy!" 

"BEEP BEEP BEEP" The oven makes a sound.

Parka puts on her fuzzy socks.

"These socks feel so soft! I love wearing them when it's cold outside to keep my feet warm." 

"Tap Tap Tap." Someone is at the door.

It's her friend Sally who lives next door. 

"Come outside! I have new chalk we can play with before the snow comes back and covers the sidewalk again!" 

Parka's mother watches from the window as she cooks a feast in the kitchen.
