I had just moved to a new school. I had to leave all of my friends in the Poconos. And I was very nervous because I was not sure if I would meet any new friends. Little did I know back then that I would meet my new best friend.

My mom had to go to the elementary school for parent-teacher conferences to meet my fourth-grade teacher. We arrived at the school and walked down to the hallway with all fourth-grade classrooms. Outside of the classrooms were some tables.

A girl my age was sitting at one of the tables, so I went over to her. She said her name was Avery. She immediately started to talk to me without hesitation. I could already tell that she had a fun personality, and I knew that we would bond and become best friends.

We figured out that we had the same fourth-grade teacher, which meant we could better get to know each other. Her last name was Miller, and mine was Mills, so we would sit next to each other in class and stand next to each other in line. Quickly after the school year started, we started talking all the time.

Finally, after a few months of school, I invited her over to my house. We had a blast. We played with dolls, colored, and went outside. It felt so natural and easy to be around her. After that, we started to hang out all the time. We would do everything together.

When we hung out and had sleepovers, we would bake cookies and cakes.

We would also go to the beach together.

We were inseparable, and no one could bring us apart, so we thought. That year, we were the best friends that everyone knew.

When fifth grade started, we did not have the same teacher. We made new friends and grew apart. We would still talk when we saw each other, but we did not hang out as much. Also, I made a new best friend.

As we grew apart, so did our memories. We made new best friends and friend groups. Suddenly we forgot how much fun we had with each other in the first place.

Toward the end of fifth grade, we completely lost touch. We no longer talked in school, and we forgot about each other. We each made a whole new group of friends and only hung out with them.
