Pompeii, a town in Western Italy, near Naples, was destroyed by the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in AD 79.The town, which was buried under the ashes and preserved as it was, offers us a glimpse into life in the ancient Roman Empire.

The city of Pompeii was a lively city- just bustling with life! It was near the sea, with a mild, gentle climate and very fertile land.

Pompeii, lay at the foot of Mount Vesuvius. On August 23, in AD 79, the volcano erupted with unbelievable force.
