Elliot lives in a small white house along the Neuse
River. His constant adventure and love of nature
always caught people's attention. Wherever he
traveled, he always rode his shiny red bike.

BEEEP

One early morning, Elliot got a voice mail from the Governor of
North Carolina. "BEEEP!!!", then the Governor spoke,"I heard
about your adventures and I need help to solve a problem. Can
you come over to the NC State Capitol today so I could tell you
more about this problem?"

Excited that the Governor invited him, Elliot left a
message back to let the Governor know that he
was coming. He hops onto his shiny red bike, like
he does whenever he goes on an adventure, and
heads to Raleigh, the state capitol of North
Carolina.

When Elliot arrives in Raleigh, he goes to the
Downtown to seek the capitol building. After
much searching, he spots a grand, white
building surrounded by a beautiful garden. On
a sign, it said that this building is the North
Carolina State Capitol Building. Elliot excitedly
walks inside where the receptionist shows him
to the Governor's office.

renewable energy - any energy resource that can be restored by nature
nonrenewable energy - any energy resource that can't be restored fast
enough by nature

The Governor greets Elliot as he walks inside, admiring every
fancy thing he saw. The Governor declares, "I've invited you
here to tell you of a problem. I'm upset that our state uses
nonrenewable energy to generate electricity because making
electricity this way harms the environment. Also, the air we
breathe in is also polluted by the nonrenewable energy. Tell
me, would you be upset because of this?"
"Of course." answers Elliot.
"So can you help me find the best renewable energy to solve
this environmental problem?" the Governor questions.
Elliot shouts, "Yes!"
"Then I wish good luck on your journey!" adds the Governor.

So with a sense of purpose, brave Elliot cycles away
from the busy city towards the peaceful suburbs to
meet his wise grandfather, who runs The Solar House.

"Hello my dear little Elliot! What are you doing
here?" exclaimed Gramps.
Elliot responds "I'm on a quest for the
Governor and I came here to figure out if solar
energy is the best energy source in North
Carolina."
"Then I can certainly help!" Gramps bellows.
Solar Energy - power obtained by harnessing the energy of the sun's ray

"Look up there." points Gramps. "Those blue things on the roof are called solar panels. They absorb
the sunlight during the day, generating electricity. The electricity can be used to power everything
inside the house. An advantage is that this type of renewable energy is clean and doesn't hurt the
environment." lectures Gramps.
Elliot questions, "What happens if it's nighttime?"
Gramps answers, "The electricity can be stored to be used later. But a disadvantage is that it isn't
enough to power a whole house." Gramps sighs.
"What happened?" asks Elliot.
"I'm to old to climb a ladder to clean the solar panels after it rains. So I've decided to retire."
Topic: Solar Energy
Good:
-It is clean energy = it doesn't hurt the environment
-It can be stored to be used later
Bad:
-It need to be regularly cleaned
-Not enough power is generated

After thanking his grandfather for help, away
Elliot rides to hunt for another renewable energy
source.
