My name is Dylan James Martin-Harley, 

I'm 7 years old.  

On the 24th April, 2013 I was diagnosed

with a large brain tumor,   this is my

story.

How I met Sylvia the 

neurosurgeon....

It all started when I was being sick in year 2.   My dad 

took me to the doctor and to the eye doctor as I was having

 some trouble with my eyesight too.   Then we got an appointment

with the   GP again to see what was going on with me.  

 After the GP's and the eye doctor didn't know what was wrong 

with me I was referred to Wexham hospital where they made me have 

an MRI which I didn't   like, it was very noisy and quite petrifying.

The MRI revealed a large brain tumor so they organised for an ambulance to take 

me to John Radcliffe to have my humongous operation. I had never been in an 

ambulance before, it was a bumpy ride.   When I got there I met Sylvia 

and that's when I learned what a neurosurgeon does...brain surgery!  

I brought two bears with me there names were Teddy and Bertie, 

they were my best friends in hospital.   All the doctors and nurses   looked

 after me and I truly appreciated that because I was getting 

better every second.

My favorite doctors were the play doctors because every day they used 

to visit me to take me to the play room. The games there were giant 

connect 4 and 10 pin bowling. The play doctors didn't just play with me they 

also told me what was going to happen to me before and after the 

 operation which helped me feel less frightened.   They told me

when I woke from the operation I would have a tube 

 connected to my head so that the fluid that was making my brain

 swell could get out.   I was attached to a tube that was

  connected to a long rod on wheels, going to the toilet was tricky.
