Willow and Timmy were doing a scavenger hunt in the forest. Willow tried to show Timmy a pretty butterfly, but he was ignoring her.

Willow began to get angry because Timmy was not answering her as she screamed at him. He turned around, looked at her, and said nothing.

Willow then ran home to find her dad and told him that Timmy was ignoring her. She said: "TIMMY IS BEING MEAN. HE WON'T LISTEN TO ME!"

Willows dad replied: "Timmy's not being mean he just can't hear you sometimes."

Willow was confused, "Why can't Timmy hear me? I can always hear him."

Willow's dad was happy to answer this important question... "Let me tell you a story," he said.  

"I love stories," Willow said with excitement.

"When Timmy was born, the doctor told us Timmy could not hear the same as you and I... When he hears sounds, he actually hears them quieter than we do. Let's think of it this way..."

"When he hears, it's like when you lower the volume on a TV. When the volume goes down, you hear the TV noise keep getting softer and softer. That's why he couldn't hear you outside since you were far away, and many other noises were happening at the same time."

"To be able to hear, there are little hairs that dance inside our ears when they sense a sound! Some of Timmy's hairs do not dance in his ears, making it harder for him to listen."
