Introduction
Forests are a fun place to be. You can adventure many places in the forest. There are many kinds of trees and many kinds of animals. One interesting forest is the temperate forest. The forest is full of interesting things such as trees that are big or animals that adapt to the climate.
Location and climate
Temperate forests are located on both sides of the hemisphere. Major regions in the northern hemisphere include places such as Canada British Colombia, Europe, Western Asia, Western America, and Eastern America. In the southern hemisphere, temperate forests are found in southern Chile, Tasmania, and New Zealand's islands on the south.
There is a variety of temperatures depending on the season. They are hot in the summer and can reach below freezing in the winter. The forest gets a good amount of precipitation usually receiving around 40 inches of rain yearly. It receives a lot of snow as well.

Animals
Squirrels are interesting. Squirrels gather nuts in the fall. They store as much food as possible. They store food because, in the winter, food is scarce. In the winter, the squirrels eat the nuts that they have saved up. Squirrels are interesting, however, other animals can be also interesting too.
Bobcats, grizzly bears, and timberwolves are just like humans. In the winter because it is cold, we put on our jackets. Just like that, bobcats, grizzly bears, and timberwolves grow thick coats of fur just like jackets. It keeps the animals warm. These animals keep warm by adding thick fur that acts as coats.
Have you ever seen large groups of birds flying in one direction? Those birds are migrating. In the winter, migratory birds and monarch
butterflies migrate to the south. This is because they want to avoid winter. To do that they head south where it is warm and spend all the winter there. When it becomes warmer, the birds migrate back north.
This happens every
year. So, every year,
there is a time when the
the forest is filled with
birds and a time when
there are not many birds.

Plants
There are big plants and small plants. Big plants include something like oak, maple, and ponderosa pine trees. These trees can live up to hundreds of years. So to live long, it needs a lot of water. That's why they have a large root system that helps get water. These trees have an advantage because they can get nutrients from the soil. The fungus on the roots gives trees nutrients in exchange for sugar. These trees and fungi work as a
team to grow and survive for hundreds of years.

There are also small plants like gooseberry shrubs or blueberry shrubs. There are also plants called forbs. Forbs are small, flowering plants like lilies and orchids. Another example is the white trillium. These are beautiful flowers

that produce large white flowers. The flowers are produced after seven to ten years. Even though these plants are small, they can live up to 70 years.
There are in fact weird plants as well. Mistletoe and the ghost plant are two examples. These plants are parasitic, meaning that they harm other organisms while they benefit. Mistletoe grows on branches of other trees. Here, the mistletoe steals water and nutrients. On the other hand, the ghost plant stays low on the
