I dedicate this book to my best friends, Eleanor and Sky.

Skylar woke up to birds chirping. Her mom, Queen Clementine, was opening her windows. She lay in her pink bed, watching as the butterflies and birds flutter in the canopy of trees outside.

“Good morning my little princess, here is your gown for the day.” She held up a pink poofy dress and layed it neatly on the foot of the bed. “Once you’ve got it on, come down to the dining kitchen for breakfast. Wilma has prepared homemade biscuits and tea for breakfast.”

Skylar's family lived in a castle. Afterall, her parents were King and Queen of the Kingdom of Camelot. Wilma was their full time chef. She made them anything and everything they wanted.

After breakfast Skylar walked to the study wing. It was a portion of the small castle that was designed for Skylars learning. She had a private teacher. Skylar's school was boring and she was lonely.

Skylar wished that she could go to a real school, with other kids. She was basically locked up in the castle. Nobody understood, when she asked her parents to go outside to play with the kids in the town, they told her “No, it's too dangerous, and you're too mature to play. You're a princess!”

After school she put on her “outside apron” which was to keep her gown clean. She walked across the foyer, through the grand ballroom, said hello to her parents in the chapel, and out the door into the Garden.

The grand garden was Skylar's favorite place to be. There where flowers and plants covering everything. One big bench sat in the middle, underneath a great willow tree. Under the curtains of leaves, she could read all day long.
The gardener occasionally stopped in to greet her, but mostly stayed tending the plants. Skylar liked the company, but liked the privacy of the tree better. Eleanor was the gardeners name.

Today she was sitting under the tree reading her book, like many other days. She heard footsteps walking towards her, so she said “Hi Eleanorina!” but there was no response. Soon she heard “Uhm, i'm not Eleanor. I am Jacki. I have some mail addressed to you”. Surprised, Skylar stood up and walked through the leafs.

In front of her stood a short girl. She looked about Skylars age. Her hair was dark brown, chopped off by her chin. She wore jeans and a T-shirt.

The girl handed the mail to Skylar then shook her hand. "I am Jacklyn, but I go by Jacki. Whats your name?" Skylar responded with “I am Princess Skylar of the Kingdom of Camelot”."Your name sounds so fancy. Your life must be fantastic” Jacki said. Skylar laughed “No way, Id much rather be a normal kid."

Jacki stayed for a while and the two girls told each other how it was to be a regular kid and a princess. Jacki said she said she lived in the north of town, which was well known for being poor. Skylar told her that every morning when she woke she had to put on an uncomfortable dress and go to “fake school” then spend the day reading.

After a while Jacki said “Well, I better go. I have 3 more houses to drop mail off at. Once I get home I have to make myself dinner and finish my homework. Just as she was walking out of the garden Skylar said “Stop! Let me come with you. I can keep you company and I'll get to escape my boring life”.

Can I come?
An hour later they were walking down the street. They definitely looked out of place. Skylar was wearing a bright pink ball gown and Jacki was walking alongside her in old ripped up clothes. They decided to stop at Jackis house to get some clothes for Skylar to change into so she looked normal.

Soon they walked up a small driveway. At the top there was a small house, it was basically a shed. Jacki walked to the bedroom and grabbed another T-shirt and a pair of jeans. The jeans were thick and itchy, but somehow they felt comforting and snug onces she put them on.

Off they went. They walked to another house down the road. An older lady answered the door and exclaimed “Wow you have another worker I see!” The lady's face scrunched up and she continued “Very familiar. What's your name young girl?” Skylar got nervous. She hadn't thought about a code name! People would surely recognize her long yellow hair and princess name.

While walking to the next house they made a secret identity for Skylar. Her undercover name is Sky. She pulled her hair back into a ponytail and scrunched it up to make it messy. After smearing a bit of dirt on her face, she looked like a whole new person.

When the two girls completed their task, they walked back to the front gates of Skys palace. They said their goodbyes and Jacki walked home.

When she got inside a maid told her that Wilma had prepared a feast for dinner. She ate and went to bed. Skylar dreamt of living a normal life. She decided she wanted to go by Sky, it sounded less “princessy”.

Meanwhile, Jacki was having a small dinner of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches with her mom. When she fell asleep she dreamt of what it would be like to be a princess.

The next day when Jacki dropped of the mail, Sky invited her over for the following day. Jacki agreed and was exited to see what it would be like to be a princess for a day.

Early the next morning Jacklyn showed up at the front gates of the castle. One guard let her through the grand entrance and told her the route to Skylars room. It sounded like he was explaining how to cross the country! Finally she found Skys bedroom.

Jacki was in awe of Skys room. There was a whole separate room for her dresses! Skylar called it her “Gown closet”. To own just one of the beautiful dresses would make her the happiest girl on earth. “As a princess I am required to wear multiple gowns a day, but I would much rather wear jeans and a T-shirt. Its so much easier to move. Plus so much more comfy!” she told Jacki.
“You can pick one out. My gift to you. Any dress in here, consider it yours. I can tell you want to, don't hesitate!” Skylar said. “No way!” Jacklyn said in disbelief. “They are all so pretty, why would you give one away?” “I really have no use, I have more dresses than days of the year! I will never wear them all anyways. I don't even know half the ones I do own!”. Jacki didn't argue with that, instead she looked around wondering just which one she would choose.

In the end Jacklyn chose a flowy yellow one with rhinestones lining it. She excitedly put it on. Jacki felt like a real princess.
