Autobiography project by Erik Unterberger

For most people this day was very average but for me it was a very sad day. I was about nine when this happened and it will always be a sad day for my family

For the past few months my grandmother had been struggling with Alzheimer's which kept getting worse and worse. This was really hard for me because she lived in New Jersey so I didn't see her often.

Despite this, my grandmother was still very close to me and my family. She would be invited down to the beach with us and to every family event during holidays.

Following this into the summer, we were able to see her much more as her condition kept getting worse. We were always there for her during this.

As the visits to her house got more frequent we could notice all of the changes in the way she was acting.

This really saddened me and my family because we knew the condition was getting more serious. It was really hard to see a loved one like this at my young at the time.

By this point we knew we were going to lose her soon so we spent as much time as we possibly could with her. It was summer by then so we could visit almost every weekend to check up on her.

This time was very tuff for my dad because it was his mother he lived his whole life with and it really hurts to lose someone like that. This was one of the few times I've him cry in my life at this point so I know how much it meant to him.

Her symptoms took off and my grandfather was almost spending all of his time each day taking care of her because she was unable to do most basic things at this point.

Eventually her symptoms got to the point where we knew she was about ready to pass away soon. Knowing this my dad was acting extremely different and was not ready for this to happen.
