I started out as a baby catbird in a nest, I hatched out of an egg in a tree. I had lots of other eggs around me. I was blind at first, but I did know they were there. I was named Willow.

All the other baby birds hatched. I was fed tasty worms and insects. I ate earthworms, mealworms, beetles, ants, grasshoppers, and crickets! They were tasty, but also a bit mushy because I have swallow it properly.

My eyes slowly started to open. I could see a little. Then, I started to grow flight feathers. After a few weeks, I started to eat berries. The other birds did, too.

It was soon time to leave the nest. Since I was oldest, I had to go first. I was nervous, but I kept telling myself that I can do it. I jumped out of the nest and I flapped my wings! I was actually flying! I couldn't believe it!

There are dangers on the ground, too! When I landed on the ground, I hopped around a little. I saw a stray cat! The cat was getting ready to stalk me. I flew away into a bush and I didn't think the cat could find me there. Phew! I was safe.
