This story is from my great-great grandfather's point of view.
Healthcare:
During the British colonial period, Healthcare in Singapore was limited as the government did not provide medical services for the general public.
The British colonial only allowed wealthy Asians to receive medical treatment and poorer Asians were unfortunate as they could not afford proper healthcare.

My family was one of the unfortunate Asians that lived in poverty when we migrated to Singapore. Many of my neighbours have passed due to the poor sanitation and malnutrition, not only did my family suffer from these health problems, other Asian families too are suffering from them.
Ever since Singapore became a Crown Colony in 1867, the government has made attempts to solve health issues in the area by setting up measures and a committee which has resulted in clearing dirty streets and drains.

Thanks to the measures and committee, our Singapore's public health today has improved a lot compared to the past because of its economic growth and an increase in awareness to the locals healthcare to stop the spreading of diseases.

Law & Order:
During the British colonial period, Law and Order in Singapore was difficult. However, in Singapore today, it is a very safe and peaceful country. There were many crimes happening that time hence was tough to keep the peace in Singapore.
Traders in Singapore had enough of the police force being small as well as it unable to maintain its Law and Order. They called a public meeting and pointed out that the many crimes going on made them feel unsafe.
Thus, Thomas Dunman was appointed Deputy Magistrate and Superintendent. He persisted in making the police force more appealing to potential recruits by fighting for better working conditions and higher wages. Which resulted in him being able to attract better men into the police force.
When I heard that the police force had better working conditions with an increase in their wages, I decided to join the police force at a very young age. I met many good friends at the force and became friends. We did our best at work so that our people could feel safe in their own home.
No matter how much effort he put in, he was unable to solve all the problems of crime and disorder. Thankfully, by the 1930s, there were motor cars and radio communications hence the work of the police force became more efficient.
There were many riots going on and we were usually outnumbered... The government had to send soldiers in to help us. When Thomas Dunman retired, I continued to serve the police force and soon after retired before motor cars and radio communications were introduced in the force. Through my experience, Thomas Dunman has taught all of us valuable lessons and has achieved much.
All these improvements have made Singapore a safer and meaningful place.
I hope that Singapore in the future will be better than in the present. With technology advancing, I am sure that Singapore would be cleaner, more peaceful, and harmonious with no riots or things like overcrowding, malnutrition, or poor sanitation.
