Dear Reader,
It is Helen again, I was born in June, 27, 1880. I was born a healthy baby. I grew up in a farm and loved to play with all my farm animals. It was only until I was 19 months old that I ended up getting sick and I lost my eyesight and my hearing. The doctors did not know what it was. If you want to know what happened I will tell you in my next letter.
Love,
Helen
Dear Reader,
In the year 1887, I was being taught by Anne Sullivan to be able to communicate. She began teaching me how to follow rules, manners and how to take care of myself. I will be honest with you, I did not like her at first. I used to misbehave and throw tantrums. Anyways, I will talk to you again soon.
Love,
Helen
Dear Reader,
Remember my teacher Anne Sullivan? I ended up loving her. She taught me how to communicate. She started by writing letters in the palm of my hand. The first word I learned was water. Guess how she did it? She spelled the word water in my hand at the same time she put some water over my hand. It was one of my biggest accomplishments. Alright, talk to you soon.
Love,
Helen
Dear Reader,
Anne also taught me how to read. I know what you are thinking, How? It was through a special reading called Braille. Braille is a an alphabet that you can read because the letters are made out of little bumps made for people that are blind. After this accomplishment, my parents believed in me so much and decided to send me to a special school to learn how to speak and write. I even got to graduate college making me the very first blind person to earn a degree.
Love,
Helen
