Joe and his 4th grade class are doing research about animals that live in their area. He is really excited for this project!

Joe was so excited because he really wanted to research black bears. He also really liked when his class got to read books and do research last year.

When Joe's class got to the library that day, they found out that they would be using the computer for this project! They had mastered finding books and needed to start learning how to use the library to find things online.
Joe listened and learned about searching the library's databases. He was ready to start his search for information on the Black Bear

Joe searched in his library database "Black Bear" and then saw that there was over 200 results!
How could he read ALL of that?
He could not even find what he was looking for, there was just so much stuff.

The librarian noticed that Joe had walked away from the computer and the class to go to the stacks.
The librarian decided to check on Joe.

The librarian knows that learning to search online can be intimidating and Joe seems to be feeling upset because he can't find what he is looking for.
I just can't do it! Searching online is SOO hard. I liked looking at books better because there was not as much to read.

Using books can get you the right information and online can be hard. But using the computer will help grow your research brain! You can find information all over the place. Let's look at your search, what did you try?
