Author & Illustrator:
Jessica Raber

This is Axel. He is a third grade student in elementary school. He enjoys playing tag with his friends, taking things apart to see how they work, drawing and being creative.

Today, Axel went to the doctor with his mom because he is struggling with certain tasks in school.

Axel has been having trouble paying attention in class, sitting still at his desk, and keeping his desk and school work organized.

After running some tests and answering questions, the doctor concluded that Axel has something called attention deficit hyperactivity disorder or ADHD.

ADHD sounds scary, but really it is a common health impairment that can be managed with accommodations and if necessary, medication.
The doctor explained...

The doctor continued...

Sense of humor! Those with ADHD can always make people laugh, reminding them not to take things too seriously
Perseverance! Children with ADHD work twice as hard as their their peers to achieve goals! This builds a deep determination to try again until they succeed.

Hyper-focus! Those with ADHD can accomplish much more, much faster than many without this superpower.
