One day, I put a little 

birdhouse on a branch. It had 

a little hole in it for the birds to 

get in. I waited and waited for 

the birds, but no birds came. It 

was time to eat dinner, but 

when I came back, there were 

still no birds.

The next morning, I saw two 

birds flying past the birdhouse. 

I thought they were going 

inside of it, but all they did was 

eat the slimy worms squirming 

next to the birdhouse. I didn't 

know what to do. 

An hour later, a beautiful bird 

flew over to the birdhouse. It 

was a phoenix! The phoenix 

stuck its head through the hole 

in the little wooden house and 

looked inside. It wiggled inside 

of the birdhouse, and lay three 

golden eggs. I was so happy.

From that day on, the phoenix 

became my pet. Soon, Flame's 

babies, Flower, Fire, and Daisy 

learned to fly. The phoenix 

lived in the birdhouse like it 

was living a happy life being 

my pet! But one day, my 

phoenix died.
