Math time was finally here and Mrs. Foskey was teaching a lesson over fractions. She thought that it was going well, until she finished writing a problem on the board and noticed that all of her students were asleep.

Mrs. Foskey thought to herself, "How can I make these fraction lessons more fun and engaging?"

The first thing that came to her mind when thinking about how to make her lesson more fun for her student's was pizza.

After a late night of planning and shopping, Mrs. Foskey was ready to teach an exciting lesson on fractions.
"Who likes pizza?" she asked her students. Sleepy students across the room suddenly started paying attention.

Mrs. Foskey started to ask questions about pizza. "Whose parents have ever ordered a pizza?" Everyone's hands went up. Then she asked, "How many people ate the pizza?" There were answers like 4, 6, and 12 people that all ate pizza. Finally, she asked, "How were the pizzas cut?" Almost every student answered "triangles".

Mrs. Foskey then had a quick whole group review over unit fractions. A unit fraction is a rational number written as a fraction where the numerator is one and the denominator is a positive integer.

After the review, Mrs. Foskey divided the students into 4 groups of 6. These groups got to pick a unit fraction by pulling a piece of paper out of a cup. The papers contained what fraction their pizza would have to be partitioned into once it was cooked.

Once each group had picked their unit fraction from the cup, they began working together to create their pizza with given ingredients.
