I decided to write this storybook based on my experience with Domestic violence as a child. This book shares basic Knowledge of Domestic Violence for Kids or teens who have witnessed or know someone who has witnessed or experienced domestic violence.

Lani a little girl who was raised in the tropical seas,
came from this beautiful country
name Belize.
while you would think everything is paradise,
Lani's experience was otherwise.
Lani was always scared and worried.
Somedays sad and somedays mad.
"Could it always be this bad?"
Mommy and Daddy were always fighting.
Sometimes Momma would be crying, and sometimes she would be hurt.
Lani was confused and didn’t know what to do! She is only a kid. What much can she do?

Bla! Bla! Bla!
Yelling
I'm Sorry, please stop screaming.
Lani didn't like feeling this way.
She just wanted it all to go away.
But Lani didn't realize it was okay to feel this way.
It's okay to feel negative emotions.
Negative Anger
Emotions: Fear
Sadness
Embarrassment
Frustration
Nervousness

any feeling which causes you to be upset and sad.
Lani wanted to talk to someone but didn't know who.
Lani didn't know that she could talk to anyone she trusted.
It could be her teacher, aunts, or any adult she felt safe around.

You can talk to anyone you trust

Grandparents
Aunts
Teacher
Trust: a feeling that somebody or something will turn out good.
One day Lani's teacher, Mrs. Kay, noticed that Lani was not Ok.
Mrs. Kay asked Lani what was wrong.
"Why is it that my parents fight all day? Is it my fault? Am I to blame?"

What's Wrong?
You seem Sad!
"Sometimes in families, parents don't get along,
they might argue, they might fight
sometimes they may hurt each other.
And that is not ok!
If a parent hurts another parent by
kicking, hitting, punching, or bullying, such as calling them ugly names or shouting; this is called Domestic Violence."

Dumb

Calling Ugly Names

Hitting
Fighting
Shouting
Domestic violence can be dangerous for you or the person getting hurt.
Do not get involved.
It would be best to tell someone outside your family what is happening.
This is so that they can help you.
If your parents tell you to keep it a secret,
Remember, you should tell someone that you trust.
1. GO TO A SAFE PLACE
2. DON’T GET IN THE MIDDLE
3, CALL FOR HELP
4. YOU ARE NOT ALONE
5. DOMESTIC VIOLENCE IS DANGEROUS AND AGAINST THE LAW

Lani, know you are not to blame,
And you shouldn’t feel ashamed,
The person who uses abuse is always the one to blame.

Its not your fault

"Mrs. Kay, why does my mommy stay?"
"There are many reasons why a parent might stay, sometimes a parent doesn't have enough money, or they may be afraid.
Sometimes parents stay because they want their family together. Maybe they think they don't have anywhere else to go.
Sometimes the parent might still love the person hurting them, and they believe that the person will change someday."
