Like most people, I have always loved watching movies. Whether it was watching them with my friends, my family members or by myself, movies have had a big part in my life. In this book, I will tell you about things that changed movies forever. This includes technology changes, the different ways we tell stories, and the methods that movies are marketed.

Technology Changes

Whenever a new technology is invented, it changes the way movies are made and enjoyed. Before movies could include talking, it did not matter if an actor or actress had a pleasing voice, but many people were fired from movies once theaters could play sound because of their voices. The movie Singin' In The Rain is about this change. Much later, families began to buy VCR and DVD players so that they could watch movies at home. This caused ticket sales to drop for many years possibly because they knew they could watch them at home later.

Story Telling

Every now and then, a movie comes along that changes the way movies are made after it. In 1970, The Godfather premiered and every movie after it was made differently. The Godfather was violent but very successful and audiences wanted more movies to be like it rather than movies before 1970 that were more happy-go-lucky. In 1996, Wes Craven's Scream pointed out that all horror movies follow the same formula. After Scream, horror movies had to change so that they did not seem like they were all the same.

Marketing

Movies can make some people very rich, so marketing strategies are very important. Now many studies will not make a movie unless they know it will be profitable. Hollywood knows that the two largest groups of people that watch movies in theaters are teenage boys and China. Because of this, most movies are created with them in mind which is why so many superhero movies are being made right now.
