Lev Vygotsky: Sociocultural
Attention, Sensation, Perception, and Memory. The social and cultural environment is used to help develop higher mental functions. Scaffolding is learning through a more informed individual. Zone of Proximal Development is a child learning without guidance but then being able to get guidance from an adult if they need help.
I believe that these are good for our “elementary mental functions” and how they help develop our mental skills as we continue to grow older.
Jean William Fritz Piaget: Cognitive
Sensorimotor (birth to 18-24 months; object permanence) Preoperational (2 to 7 years old; symbolic thought)
Concrete operational (7 to 11 years old; logical thought)
Formal operational (Adolescence to adulthood; scientific reasoning)
I believe that each stage is a learning process. All children may or may not go through, but the majority of the kids do and it helps with learning more about how to do certain things and obtain different skills.
John Bowlby: Attachment
Secure - children are more likely to see other children and be supportive and helpful among others
Avoidant - children are most likely be unable to handle stressful situations
Ambivalent - children lack self confidence and stick close to caregivers or parents
Disorganized - fail to develop an organized strategy for coping with separation distress
I honestly didn’t know about these, but I think these are true for the most part because I do see children being anxious from separation or disorganized from stressful situations.
B.F. Skinner: Behavioral
Skinner’s theory is Operant conditioning where it refers to behavior that acts on an environment and leads to consequences. Operant behaviors are different from respondent behaviors. Operant is mental behaviors while respondent is physical behaviors like moving your arm.
