DIVERSITY

The world is superdiverse and is made up of all kinds of people.

Most of us know how to enjoy being in company of different people and learn by their side about various heritage languages they speak and cultures that can enrich us enormously.

Sadly, others do not tolerate people who are different from them, thus treat them unfairly.

WHAT IS RACISM ?

Many of us, immigrants, can feel excluded at times. Unfortunately, people are treated differently because of their family background, the country they come from or the colour of their skin. 

So, racism, for me, it is a form of prejudice. It is when you caught yourself on the fact that you do not like certain group of people without knowing them. Is it fair ?

INTOLERANCE

What is it ? It is quite widespread nowadays. Some people do not accept  somebody else's culture, relatives, religion or simply their style of life. 

Why ? Because it differes from their own.

Luckily, there are many more people on this planet that are open-minded and tolerant.

These people  understand that every single person has  his/her right to be happy and feel inlcuded in the new  society they have chosen to integrate in.

WHAT CAN CAUSE PREJUDICE AT SCHOOL?

More and more multilingual children can be found inside the monolingual classrooms.

It is high time we, teachers, were prepared to llearn from these multilingual students and their rich trajectories as multilingual children.

Instead, they are considered different by their peers and, it is a pity, but by  teachers too.

It can make kids feel alone, angry or scared.

If not supported in schools and in the house, they can have  trauma for the rest of their lives.
