One morning, Liam was getting ready for his first day at school. He was very excited to learn and to make new friends. His mom made him his favorite breakfast, which is waffles and bacon.

    "Are you excited for your first day of school?" asked his mom.

    "Yeah!" exclaimed Liam.

yeah!

    After breakfast, Liam grabbed his backpack and his mom walked him to the bus stop. He waited with his mom for the bus to arrive.

    When the bus arrived, he said goodbye to his mom and headed off to his first day of school. He excitedly found a seat and very impatiently waited to get to school.  

I can't wait for the bus to get here!

    When he arrived at school he found his way to his classroom and was greeted by his teacher, Mrs. Walker. She introduced herself to him and showed him where his seat will be. 

    He sat in his seat and and that's where he met another little boy in his class. He was shorter than Liam, he was wearing a striped shirt, and he had spikey hair.

"Hi, my name is Marco. What's your name?" said the little boy.

"Hi Marco, my name is Liam." said Liam.

Welcome to Kindergarten!

I'm Marco, what's your name?

I'm Liam.

    After all the children arrived to school and found their way to the classroom, Mrs. Walker introduced herself to the whole class. 

    "Welcome to Kindergarten," she said, "My name is Mrs. Walker and I will be your teacher this year."

    Mrs. Walker then had the students get to know one another in the classroom. The students took turns going around and introducing themselves to the class.

Let's have you all introduce yourselves by saying your names!

    When it got to Liam's turn to tell the class his name, a little boy interrupted him and said, "That's a stupid name" he yelled.

    Mrs. Walker scolded him and told him that he should be nice and respectful to his classmates. He scoffed and waited for his turn to introduce himself to the class.

    When it was his turn to tell the class his name he stood up and said, "My name is Luca."

    "I think that is a really cool name," said Liam.

    "That was very nice, Liam." said Mrs. Walker.

Later that day, it was time for recess. The whole class formed a line and walked outside to the playgroud. Everyone was running around and having a good time. 

    Liam was playing with Marcus but they wished they had a fooball. They were currently playing with a soccer ball and noticed that Luca had the football. Liam went up and asked Luca if he could borrow the football for a little while and then he would give it back before recess was over. Luca refused and called Liam dumb for asking. 

Could we borrow that football for a little while?

No way! You're dumb for even asking!

    "That's okay, I'm sorry you feel that way. If you want to play with me and Marcus, you can come and join us." Liam said to Luca.

    Luca rolled his eyes and walked away. He went back to playing by himself under the tall oak tree. Liam went back to Marcus and explained what happened.

    "Why are you so nice to him even when he i so mean to you?" said Marcus.

    "My mom taught me that it is important to treat people the way you wish to be treated. And I am hoping that my kindness helps him be kind to others." said Liam.
