10 Years before
Today my student won her first big competition I think I'll be training her more in the ways of how to do tricks while you dance on the water I myself am going to train for something happening years from now I am going to compete in the national water skier competition the winner's get a special prize at the end and it is said to make your connection with the water even stronger then before it is called "Ka moana anuenue".
10 years later
I walked along the shoreline as I repeated the same words over and over in my head connect, connect, connect my heart was pounding in my chest I put my hand into the water and said "ʻAʻole pono mākou e kānalua" I got onto my boards and nodded to the boat driver hit it I said the boat zoomed off and I studied only on the wavs and the beat of my heart we were one when I felt I had enough momentum I let go of the handle attached to by the boat and I let the water carry me in a straight line I spun six times to the left and then to the right I felt my connection with the water very strong but it was draining my energy I jumped off the boards and flipped nine times forward and the water caught me and flipped me the other way this time ten times in a row then I landed on the water I ran my hand over the water and I said "E ikaika" the water was not letting me sink and it took all the strength I had to jump forward and do a handspring on my boards right before grabbing the handle attached to the boat that was the second half of my performance and it was also the easiest part of it I still needed to finish the first half.
I was sweating head to toe when I got back onto the beach "Luna?!" ʻAnela called. How did you do that? do what I asked. ʻAnela stared at me in utter dismay and just made a sound that I thought made it sound like she was gasping for breath but then she just shook her head and said never mind anyway is that your choreography for the competition coming up yep I said so how has your skiing improved since last time "holo māmā?"
ʻAnela laughed and asked you wanna see "kaikamahine wai"? Yes I wanna see! I replied. Fine. ʻAnela said. "Paʻaka drive the boat to maximum speed please." Yes ma'am Paʻaka said. One minute I saw ʻAnela the next minute I saw her blasting through the water she had nearly perfect form and had improved greatly from last time she decided to do a trick I thought her I thought it was risky to do it at this speed but I wasn't that surprised when she gracefully lifted on leg off her board and balanced on one foot when she came back she looked exhilarated.
